We will also get to know an adapted sewn binding with a hard cover. As always, you’ll take home two original notebooks at the end. The workshop is intended for advanced participants and for graduates of the Japanese Bookbinding I workshop. It is not suitable for children and is English friendly. Capacity is limited to 6 participants to ensure plenty of space for individual guidance.

This workshop builds on the basic course and takes you further – from simple stitching to more thoughtfully constructed binding forms. It remains focused, calm work, where a book is created step by step in your hands.
Workshop outline
The workshop takes place in the calm, focused atmosphere of the kaš-mi-daš stationery universe and includes these approximate stages:
Introduction and continuation from basic techniques
- a brief recap of Japanese binding principles
- introduction to tools and materials
- presentation of more advanced variations and their specifics
Creating a Japanese accordion book
- preparing and gluing paper sheets
- building the fold-out structure
- working with composition and materials
Adapted sewn binding with a hard cover
- preparing boards and inner pages
- more advanced work with stitching
- assembly and final finishing
At the end, you will take home two finished pieces and new technical know-how that you can use in your own projects.

Instructor Paul
My name is Paul Tuttas and I am a graphic designer, visual artist, and illustrator. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in Regensburg and my Master’s degree in Illustration and Graphics at UMPRUM in Prague.
I am interested in everything that forms a book – its cover, graphic layout, illustrations, and the binding itself. In the workshop, I will share my experience with you and guide you through the process in which individual sheets of paper transform into a distinctive book created by your own hands.
