A hand-addressed envelope has the power to slow down time. For three hours, we’ll return to letters, ink, and writing – with lightness and a contemporary approach. You’ll try a classic dip pen, play with text composition, and leave with envelopes that are simply asking to be sent.
The workshop connects the history of letters with modern calligraphy. It’s not about perfection, but about focus, rhythm, and the joy of working by hand. All you need is the right address (or a short text), a bit of patience, and a desire to slow down.

How the workshop works
The workshop takes place in the calm, creative atmosphere of the kaš-mi-daš stationery universe and includes these approximate stages:
About letters
- a short talk about the history of letters and their meaning over time
- examples of historical letters and envelopes from a small collection of originals
- inspiration from handwritten documents for further work with lettering
First practical part – lettering
- a shortened workbook and an introduction to calligraphy
- basic strokes and letter shapes
- warming up your hand with Copperplate basics
- the difference between ink and drawing ink, preparing a new nib
- finding the character of your own handwriting (slant, roundness, sharpness)
- space also for those who prefer a more personal “scribbly script”
Addressing envelopes
- a short excursion into the history of envelopes in Europe
- laying out the address on an envelope or card
- working with axis, guides, spacing, and the rhythm of lettering
- inspiration from script fonts and how to use them in handwriting
Closing
- finishing your work
- the option to send the letter immediately, or seal it and open it in a few years
The workshop will guide you from historical inspiration to your own addressed letter – and may remind you how beautiful it is to receive a real letter in your mailbox.
Your instructor
Instructor Eva
My name is Eva Holá and I work with visual art, graphic design, drawing, artist books, and calligraphy. In my work, I often collaborate with film, where I draw on historical realities – and letters play a strong role in what I create.
I completed a Master’s degree at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), in the studio of Jan Solpera (lettering and typography). I currently work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.
In the workshop, I’ll guide you through the world of lettering with respect for tradition and openness to contemporary expression. I believe handwritten words still have their place – and they can slow down time. 💌
