A refillable pen for everyday writing

Tom’s Studio Wren is a compact writing pen designed as a long-lasting alternative to conventional disposable pens. Instead of a single-use refill, it uses a removable fibre reservoir that can be filled directly with bottled ink. When the ink runs out, there is no need to replace the whole pen – simply refill the reservoir and continue writing.

Wren uses a high-quality Japanese-made fibre writing tip with a line width of approximately 0.3–0.5 mm depending on writing pressure. It offers the familiar feel of a fine rollerball or fibre-tip pen while allowing you to choose your own ink colour and replace individual components when required.

Bottled ink instead of disposable refills

The fibre reservoir is filled directly from an ink bottle and gradually feeds ink to the writing tip. This means you are not tied to proprietary refills and can use the Wren with a wide range of dye-based fountain pen inks.

In Tom’s Studio testing, a single fill wrote continuously for approximately 344 metres – roughly equivalent to 50 handwritten A4 pages. Actual performance will depend on the ink, writing pressure and absorbency of the paper.

Which inks can be used?

Wren is suitable for standard dye-based fountain pen inks. Do not use shimmer inks containing particles or conventional calligraphy inks, as these may clog the fibre reservoir or writing tip.

For the standard Wren, Tom’s Studio also lists selected pigment inks as compatible, including Tom’s Studio No. 60 Pigment Black. When using pigment ink, we recommend more regular use and cleaning to prevent pigment from drying inside the tip.

Thoughtfully compact design

At just 80 mm when capped, Wren fits easily into a pocket, pen case or a small planner compartment. When writing, the cap can be posted on the back of the pen, extending it to a comfortable 120 mm.

The body is made from anodised aluminium. Most colourways feature subtle micro-grooves around the grip area for additional control without a plastic grip. Black and Midnight instead use a naturally grippy matte finish.
