Workshop: The Magic of Natural Ecoprinting

Natural ecoprint workshop

Nature can print by itself. Leaves, flowers and other natural materials contain colours and structures that, with the right process, can be transferred directly onto fabric.

During The Magic of Natural Ecoprinting workshop with Monika Doležalová, you will discover a direct-printing technique using flowers, plants and natural extracts. Over two and a half hours, you will explore how natural dyes react under different conditions, how to create a composition on fabric and how folding, binding and steaming can produce a unique print that can never be replicated exactly.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners. It is not about controlling every detail of the result, but about discovery, experimentation and the joy of a process in which nature always has the final say.

  • Time to slow down – focused hands-on work offers a welcome break from the pace of everyday life.
  • Creative work without pressure – ecoprinting embraces natural unpredictability, and every result is unique.

How the workshop works

The workshop takes place in a relaxed, creative atmosphere and guides you through the entire process, from your first introduction to natural colours to the moment you unwrap your finished print.

Introduction to the world of natural colours

  • welcome and introduction to the workshop programme
  • a short introduction to sources of natural colour and methods of obtaining, processing and preserving them
  • an explanation of mordanting and how natural colours react to different mordants and changes in pH

Preparing the textiles

  • preparing and soaking pre-mordanted textiles
  • an introduction to materials suitable for ecoprinting

Creating the ecoprint

  • a demonstration of different printing, folding and binding techniques
  • consultation on your own design and composition
  • arranging plants and natural materials on the fabric
  • wrapping the textile correctly and steaming it
  • first creating a sample piece and then working on the final project

Unwrapping and finishing

  • unwrapping the printed fabrics and revealing the result for the first time
  • washing the finished print
  • information about further care and maintenance of the textile

Conclusion and sharing

  • looking at the finished prints together
  • sharing experiences and inspiration for further creative work at home
  • space for questions about working with natural dyes

Every print is created through a combination of intention, material and a natural process. This unpredictability is one of the greatest beauties of ecoprinting – until the bundle is opened, you never know exactly what image nature has created.

Who will guide you through the workshop

Your instructor, Monika

My name is Monika Doležalová and I am an illustrator and guide to the world of natural colours. When working with natural dyes, I am fascinated by discovering sources hidden in our immediate surroundings and by the element of surprise that comes with processing each individual plant. I enjoy testing the properties of different materials in the creative process, combining and modifying them, and I also appreciate the feeling of clearing my head through hands-on making.

I share my experience and joy of discovery with other people interested in creativity and nature. In my workshops, I create space for playful experimentation, where everyone can explore their own style with ease and with respect for materials that come from the Earth and will one day return to it.
